Latino Heritage Month 2009

Each year a University calendar of events is published to commemorate Latino Heritage Month.  Observed on campus from mid September through mid October, this celebration reflects on the experiences and acknowledges the contributions of persons of Latina/o descent.  The theme for the month is “Embracing the Fierce Urgency of Now!” Now is an excellent time to begin thinking about programming for this year’s upcoming Latino Heritage Month.  We invite you to be creative in identifying topics for programs or events that relate to your particular unit, department, organization or mission.

A number of student organizations and offices have already determined dates for annual events.  They are listed below and we highly encourage you to avoid scheduling other programs or events on these dates.

Thursday, September 9, 2009, 5:30-7:30pm – 14th Annual Bienvenida [NOTE: DATE CHANGE]
Wednesday, September 16, 2009, 5:30pm - Latino Student Union Welcome Back Barbeque
Friday, September 18, 2009, 5-9pm - Latino Heritage Month Kickoff Festival

Below you will find a form to submit program/event offerings in your area.  Please complete the on line form below or return a completed hard copy (download the form here) to us in the Multicultural Involvement and Community Advocacy (MICA) office located at 1120 Stamp Student Union no later than Wednesday, August 19, 2009.The information you provide will be included on the comprehensive calendar and online.
