Building Friendships Among Latinas
About: A Stamp Talk conversation group that creates an opportunity for meaningful conversation among students, faculty, and staff. This conversation group is dedicated to build connections among UMD Latina faculty, staff and students to discussing topics relevant to the group’s lived experience. The conversation group organizer, Pamela Hernandez, recognizes trenzas and mestizaje as a worldview and practices of bringing together Latinas and our different realities in order to build and share our knowledge, lived experiences to reveal opportunities for self reflection, growth and empowerment. Conversation Times: Our conversation group will meet monthly, on the last Thursday of the month during the academic year, usually during lunch time 12pm to 1:30pm in the Adele H. Stamp Student Union. The next conversation group will be in the afternoon to allow for those that could not make the last lunch gathering.
Joining: You can join us for a conversation at any time in the academic year without any obligation to continue.
What will you get out of it?
A safe space to share your experiences without reservations.
To share, get to know and develop connections with other talented and professional Latinas.
Relate to each other in multiple ways, such as personally and professionally.
Inter-connect intellectual/academic discourses of Latinas’ experiences with the lived experiences (school, work, family, community and others).
