Hannah Freeman
Hannah Freeman is currently finishing up her master’s degree at the University of Maryland in Art Education. Right now she is a student teacher at Forest Knolls elementary school teaching Pre-K through fifth grade and will soon be moving to Richard Montgomery high school as a ceramics teacher. Hannah also has bachelor’s degrees in both art history and studio art.
Ceramics is based on the three basic techniques of pinch, slab, and coil. After viewing various cultural examples of how clay is used throughout the world, the students will begin by making basic pinch pots which they will decorate by carving and stamping various designs. This decorative technique will be continued for the younger students in their “texture medallions,” which also demonstrate the slab technique. Older students will create ceramic tiles using the same principals, but more complex techniques that involve drawing and transferring their own designs to the clay.
Later in the camp the students will explore how to combine these techniques to create three-dimensional sculptures. The youngest students will create their own pinch pot monsters, while older students will make animals, dinosaurs, gargoyles or storyteller dolls.
Amy Boone
Hi! My name is Amy Boone, and I will be teaching Drawing, Painting, and 2-Dimensional Art at the ALC’s Summer Art Camp! I am a recent graduate of University of Maryland’s Studio Art Program, and am also receiving my Master’s degree in Art Education this spring. I enjoy making my own personal artwork, as well as teaching students of ALL ages how to build their skills and talents! This summer, we will be exploring many different methods of creating 2-dimensional work including, but not limited to, Chinese brush painting, observational drawing, tissue paper collage, and various methods of printmaking.
Irene Le
Hi! My name is Irene Le, and I am currently a UMCP Art Education graduate. I look forward to teaching 3D sculpture. Several art projects that your children can look forward to creating include: mobiles, paper-mache puppets, paper-mache inspired Japanese screens, masks, and much more! I hope that at the end of their experience here your children not only create artwork of their own, but that they learn about new artists, mediums, and materials.
