INSTRUCTOR BIOS

Thomas Bevans
Thomas Bevans has over 20 years of teaching experience (with 10 years as a respected Teacher at Chevy Chase Ballroom.) Thomas is adept at Group International Latin and American Style Ballroom classes.

Dan Calloway
A Dual Fellow of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD), Dan Calloway has been teaching Ballroom Dancing for more than 20 years. He dances competitively in International-Style Latin.

Temple Crocker is a performer and educator currently residing in Baltimore, Maryland. She has worked extensively in the San Francisco Bay Area performing with multiple companies including Art Street Theater, Campo Santo, Torque Dance Theater and Pearl Ubungen Dancers and Musicians. In 1996 she co-founded the experimental performance ensemble STRANGEFRUIT with Annie Kunjappy and Rowena Richie. STRANGEFRUIT has created six original performances including The Heat Death of the Universe based on the science-fiction story by Pamela Zoline and Sewing Lessons, a surrealist lifecycle based on the lives and art of Remedios Varo and Leonora Carrington (nominated for best direction and costume design by the Bay Area Critics Circle). Since her move to the east coast she has presented work at spare room, CHELA, Creative Alliance and the Baltimore Theatre Project.  For the past three years she has had an ongoing relationship with the Ontological-Hysteric Theater in New York presenting new work at the Summer Series in 2005 and acting in Richard Foreman's ZOMBOID in the spring of 2006. This summer she will premiere her newest work Hearts and Tongues at the KO Festival of Performance in Amherst, Massachusettes.  Temple is currently a member of the theater faculty at Towson University and University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

Gina Mai Denn
Gina Mai Denn has been teaching the pottery wheel to beginners for 10 years, as well as intermediate wheel and hand building with clay. She graduated from Alfred University in upstate New York in 1991 with a Bachelors in Fine Arts with Ceramic Art as her major. She moved to Maryland a couple of years after college and found a place to do pottery at the University of Maryland's Art and Learning Center. Within a couple of more years she started teaching at the Greenbelt Community Center's new ceramics studios. We are pleased to have Gina back at the ALC.

Adrienne Hamcke Wicker
Adrienne Hamcke Wicker holds an advanced certification in Kripalu DansKinetics/YogaRhythmics and has been teaching for 7 years. She also has been working at the University of Maryland for the last 15 years. Adrienne designed Yoga Break as way for people to give their body, mind, and spirit a much-deserved break from the stress and tension of the work day. All bodies are welcome and no yoga experience in necessary in her classes.

Peter Holden
Peter Holden has exhibited clay sculpture in group and solo shows in New York and Maryland beginning in 1987. He has also participated area craft shows with functional stoneware and majolica glazed pottery. He maintains a home-based pottery studio and has taught at the Art & Learning Center for twelve years.

Casey Kaleba
Casey Kaleba is a doctoral student in the Theatre Department and a professional fight director. Recent work in the capital area includes shows at Catholic University, the Folger Theatre, Rorschach Theatre, the Bay Theatre, and the last two seasons with the National Players, in addition to lectures or demonstrations for the Kennedy Center and Folger Library. Casey is an Associate Instructor with Dueling Arts International, and a member of the Society of American Fight Directors, Nordic Stagefight Society as well as a graduate of the International Stunt School.

Peggy Li
Peggy Li's tai chi studies, begun in 1985, have been with numerous teachers and have included Yang, Cheng man Ching, Sun, Li, and Wu (Hao) styles. She has been teaching for the past 15 years at the Silver Spring based Song Ho Health Center - a Chinese medical clinic and teaching center for Chinese healing exercise. She also has experience with macrobiotic nutrition and cooking, reflexology and various forms of massage.

Malika Negwa
Malika has been dancing professionally in the area for over 10 years and is Artistic Director and founder of the dance company, Hareem of the Queens. For more information about Malika, visit her website at http://www.malika.com

Tom Smok graduated from University Of Maryland Baltimore County with a degree in Classical Guitar Performance, but his experience with guitar is not limited to classical. Having had and interest and experience in other styles, and playing in various rock/jazz bands since middle school he's knowledgeable in various guitar styles and techniques. Tom has been performing in various setting and has been working as a guitar teacher since 2000 and his experiences vary to students of all levels, various styles, and ages.

Douglas Thompson
Douglas Thompson, RYT founder of Yoga Space, has been teaching Yoga in the Washington area for over nine years, including at George Washington University, and the University of Maryland. Douglas is certified through the Himalayan Institute as a Yoga instructor, and is registered through the Yoga Alliance. He is also certified through Integral Yoga to teach Stress Management, both as a part of a Yoga class, and within the business community in special one and two-hour seminars. He is certified in Thai Yoga Massage, and is a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists. Douglas has served as President of the Mid-Atlantic Yoga Association (MAYA). His classes incorporate stress relief, increased flexibility, breath work, and fun!

Karen Trimble
American Style Fred Astaire National Dance Association Specialist Diploma; Gold level dance director, specialist in the International Style. Qualified to coach and adjudicate at championship level in all four disciplines.

Muadi Dibinga
Ms. Dibinga is a former principal dancer of the Cle Douglass Backyard Dance Theater. She is currently an instructor and resident choreographer for the OrigiNation Cultural Arts Center (www.originationinc.org), where she has choreographed 7 ballets for OCAC’s NIA Dance Troupe. She is also the program manager and an instructor for the Center’s Summer Dance Intensive Program. Ms. Dibinga also served as the Company Manager for Complexions Contemporary Ballet. She has also achieved the level of blue belt in Tae Kwon Do.
